• Justice Ayesha Malik will be Pakistan's first-ever woman judge of the Supreme Court, a watershed moment in the judicial history of the conservative Muslim country.
• The historic development came after the Bipartisan Parliamentary Committee on the Appointment of Superior Judiciary approved the 55-year-old justice's nomination as the Supreme Court judge. The nomination was sent by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) earlier this month.
• Justice Malik was appointed as a judge of the Lahore High Court in March 2012. She will now work as a Supreme Court judge until her superannuation in June 2031. She would be in the line to become the chief justice also in January 2030 on the basis of her seniority.
• Born in 1966, Malik completed her basic education from schools in Paris, New York, and Karachi.
• She studied law at Pakistan College of Law, Lahore and did her LLM from Harvard Law School, according to the Lahore High Court website.

• सर्वोच्च न्यायपालिका की नियुक्ति से सम्बंधित द्विदलीय संसदीय समिति द्वारा आयशा मालिक को सर्वोच्च न्यायालय के न्यायाधीश के रूप में नामांकन को मंजूरी दिये जाने के दो दिन बाद यह ऐतिहासिक क्षण आया। पाकिस्तान के न्यायिक आयोग (JCP) ने इस महीने की शुरुआत में ने उनके नाम की अनुशंसा की थी।
• न्यायमूर्ति मलिक को मार्च 2012 में लाहौर उच्च न्यायालय के न्यायाधीश के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया था। वह अब जून 2031 में अपनी सेवानिवृत्ति तक सर्वोच्च न्यायालय के न्यायाधीश के रूप में काम करेंगी। अपनी वरिष्ठता के आधार पर वह जनवरी 2030 में भी मुख्य न्यायाधीश बनने की कतार में होंगी।

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the statue in Hyderabad on February 5, 2022, to commemorate the 1,000th birth anniversary of Saint Ramanujacharya.

About the project:

• The project is built at a cost of Rs. 1,000-crore, which was funded entirely by donations from devotees globally.

• The Statue of Equality is the world’s second-tallest statue in a sitting position.
