France celebrates 14 July every year as National Day, also known as Bastille Day.

IMPORTANT FACTS -

• French National Day is formally called La Fete Nationale in France.
• It is celebrated on July 14, 1789, the anniversary of the invasion of Bastille, known as a military fort and prison, during the French Revolution.
• Along with France, it is also celebrated by other countries and especially by French speaking people and communities.
• Many public events are organised on this occasion but the most famous event is the Bastille Day Military Parade.
• This parade takes place in Paris on the morning of July 14. The first parade was held in the year 1880.
• The famous cycling race Tour de France also takes place during Bastille Day.
• The Bastille was a medieval armoury, fort and prison in Paris.
• For many common people it represented an unfair monarchy and the monarchy was a symbol of abuse of power.
• On July 14, 1789, soldiers stormed and captured Bastille.
• This signalled the beginning of the French Revolution, and three years later in 1792 the French Republic was formed.

Andhra Pradesh government has decided to re-join the ambitious Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

• IMPORTANT FACTS -
• The Andhra Pradesh government has taken this decision after talks between Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan.
• Andhra Pradesh has decided to implement PMFBY from the Kharif-2022 season.
• With this decision, crops of more than 40 lakh farmers of the state will get insurance cover in case of natural calamity.
• Andhra Pradesh had opted out of PMFBY in 2020 citing high premium prices.
• Gujarat, Bihar, West Bengal, Telangana and Jharkhand are still out of the scheme due to low claim ratio and financial constraints.
• About 'Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana' (PMFBY) -
• The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) was launched on 13 January 2016.
• The scheme provides a comprehensive insurance cover to the farmers in the event of crop failure, which helps in stabilising the income of the farmers.
• This includes all food and oilseed crops and annual commercial/horticultural crops for which past yield data is available.
• Central and state governments pay more than 95% of the premium amount, while farmers bear 1.5-5% of the premium amount.
• A 2% premium will be paid for Kharif crops (Paddy or Rice, Maize, Jowar, Bajra, Sugarcane etc.).
• For Rabi crops (wheat, barley, gram, lentil, mustard etc.) 1.5% premium will be paid.
• A 5% premium will be paid for annual commercial and horticultural crops insurance.
• This scheme was mandatory for farmers who received institutional finance before the year 2020, but by changing it, it has been made voluntary for all farmers.
• In order to ensure more efficient and effective implementation of the scheme, necessary reforms in PMFBY were made by the Central Government in the Kharif season of the year 2020.

आंध्र प्रदेश सरकार ने महत्वाकांक्षी प्रधानमंत्री फसल बीमा योजना  में फिर से शामिल होने का फैसला किया है।

• महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य -
• कृषि और किसान कल्याण मंत्री नरेंद्र सिंह तोमर और आंध्र प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री वाईएस जगन मोहन के बीच बातचीत के बाद आंध्र प्रदेश सरकार ने ये निर्णय लिया है।
• आंध्र प्रदेश ने PMFBY को खरीफ -2022 सीजन से लागू करने का फैसला किया है।
• इस निर्णय से राज्य के 40 लाख से अधिक किसानों की फसलों को प्राकृतिक आपदा की स्थिति में बीमा कवर मिलेगा।
• आंध्र प्रदेश ने उच्च प्रीमियम कीमतों का हवाला देते हुए 2020 में PMFBY से बाहर होने का विकल्प चुना था।
• कम दावा अनुपात और वित्तीय बाधाओं के कारण गुजरात, बिहार, पश्चिम बंगाल, तेलंगाना और झारखंड अभी भी योजना से बाहर हैं।
• ‘प्रधानमंत्री फसल बीमा योजना' (PMFBY) के बारे में -
• ‘प्रधानमंत्री फसल बीमा योजना' (PMFBY) को 13 जनवरी, 2016 को लॉन्च किया गया था। 
• यह योजना किसानों को फसल की विफलता (खराब होने) की स्थिति में एक व्यापक बीमा कवर प्रदान करती है, जिससे किसानों की आय को स्थिर करने में मदद मिलती है।
• इसमें वे सभी खाद्य और तिलहनी फसलें तथा वार्षिक वाणिज्यिक/बागवानी फसलें सम्मिलित है जिनके लिये पिछली उपज के आँकड़े उपलब्ध हैं।
• केंद्र और राज्य सरकारें प्रीमियम राशि का 95% से अधिक भुगतान करती हैं, जबकि किसान प्रीमियम राशि का 1.5-5% वहन करते हैं।
• खरीफ (धान या चावल, मक्का, ज्वार, बाजरा, गन्ना आदि) की फसलों के लिये 2% प्रीमियम का भुगतान किया जायेगा।
• रबी (गेंहूँ, जौ, चना, मसूर, सरसों आदि) की फसल के लिये 1.5% प्रीमियम का भुगतान किया जायेगा।

The Japanese government has decided to posthumously honour former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe with the 'Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum'.

IMPORTANT FACTS -

• Shinzo Abe was the longest-serving prime minister of Japan.
• He is the fourth former prime minister to receive the Supreme Order of Japan under the post-war constitution.
• Shinzo Abe was assassinated on July 8, 2022, while he was campaigning in the city of Nara.
• Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, fired two shots at him from a distance of 10 metres.
• His condition deteriorated on the way to the hospital due to cardiac and pulmonary arrest. He was later declared dead at Nara Medical University Hospital.

Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum .

It is the highest order in Japan.

The Grand Cordon of the Order was established in 1876 by Emperor Meiji of Japan.

Later, on January 4, 1888, the Collar of the Order was added.

Unlike European orders, this order can also be awarded posthumously.

So far, apart from the Imperial family, only 7 Japanese citizens have been given this order.

In 1928 the final order was given to former Prime Minister Sayenji Kinmochi.

  • कार्डियक और पल्मोनरी अरेस्ट के कारण अस्पताल ले जाने के दौरान उनकी हालत बिगड़ गई। बाद में नारा मेडिकल यूनिवर्सिटी अस्पताल में उन्हें मृत घोषित कर दिया गया।

Recently the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI) has released the 'Youth in India 2022' report.

IMPORTANT FACTS -

Key highlights of the report -

• According to the Youth in India 2022 report, by 2036, the number of youth will decrease by 25 million. At present the population of youth in the country is 37.14 crores.
• It will come down to 34.55 crore in 2036.
• These days 10.1% are elderly in the country, which will increase to 14.9% by 2036.
• The continuing decline in fertility has led to an increase in the working age population (between 25 and 64 years).

Status of states

• States such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh are projected to have a higher elderly population than youth by the year 2036.
• Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have experienced an increase in the proportion of youth population to total population by the year 2021 and then it is likely to decline.
• Together with Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, these two states account for more than half (52%) of the country's youth.

Due to declining youth population

• Fertility Rate- Fertility rate has been declining since few years. Fertility rate is the average number of children a woman gives birth to.
• The fertility rate was 2.4 in 2011, which will come down to 2.1 by 2019.
• Crude Death Rate- Now the death rate is decreasing in India. Crude death rate means how many deaths are taking place for every one thousand people.
• In 2019, the crude death rate was 6.0, while in 2011 it was 7.1.

  • 2036 में घटकर यह 34.55 करोड़ हो जाएगी।
  • देश में इन दिनों 10.1% बुजुर्ग हैं, जो 2036 तक बढ़कर 14.9% हो जाएंगे।
  • प्रजनन क्षमता में निरंतर गिरावट के कारण कामकाजी उम्र (25 से 64 वर्ष के बीच) की जनसंख्या में वृद्धि हुई है I
• राज्यों की स्थिति -

• क्रूड डेथ रेट- भारत में अब डेथ रेट कम होता जा रहा है I  क्रूड डेथ रेट का मतलब है कि हर एक हजार लोगों पर कितनी मौतें हो रहीं हैं I 
• 2019 में क्रूड डेथ रेट 6.0 था, जबकि 2011 में ये 7.1 था I  

• The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the construction of Taranga Hill-Ambaji-Abu Road new rail line.
• Under this, a railway line will be laid up to Taranga Hill in Mehsana district in Gujarat, Ambaji in Banaskantha and Abu Road in Rajasthan.

IMPORTANT FACTS -

• The Taranga Hill-Ambaji-Abu Road new rail line will be constructed by the Ministry of Railways at an estimated cost of Rs.2798.16 crore.
• Three pilgrimage sites from two states will be connected in this project, which is targeted to be completed by 2026-27.
• The length of this rail line will be 116.65 km.
• This rail line will facilitate faster movement of agricultural and local produce and provide better mobility of the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan with other parts of the country.

Ambaji

• Maa Ambaji Temple is situated on the Arasur mountain on the Gujarat-Rajasthan border.
• This temple is located in Banaskantha district of Gujarat.
• Ambaji Temple is one of the 51 Shakti-peeths of Hindus.
• The temple of Ambaji is also considered unique because there is not a single idol of the goddess here. Instead of the idol, there is a very sacred Sri Yantra, which is mainly worshipped.

Mount Abu

• Mount Abu is a town in the Sirohi district of the state of Rajasthan.
• It is a hill station situated in the Aravalli Hills.
• Mount Abu is the headquarters of the Brahma Kumaris community.

Taranga Hill

• Taranga Hill is a Jain pilgrimage centre in the Mehsana district of Gujarat.
• The temple of Ajitnath, the second Tirthankara of Jainism, is situated here.
• This beautiful temple was built in the 12th century by Shvetambar Solanki King Kumarpal in honour of Lord Ajitnath.  TarangaTaranga

• प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी की अध्यक्षता में आर्थिक मामलों की मंत्रिमंडलीय समिति ने तरंगा हिल-अंबाजी-आबू रोड नई रेल लाइन के निर्माण को मंजूरी दी है। 
• इसके तहत गुजरात में मेहसाणा जिले के तारंगा हिल, बनासकांठा के अंबाजी और राजस्थान में आबू रोड तक रेलवे लाइन बिछाई जाएगी।

महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य -

• तरंगा हिल-अंबाजी-आबू रोड नई रेल लाइन 2798.16 करोड़ रुपये की अनुमानित लागत से रेल मंत्रालय द्वारा बनाई जाएगी।
• इस परियोजना में दो राज्यों के तीन तीर्थ स्थल जुड़ेंगे जिसे, 2026-27 तक पूरा करने का लक्ष्य है।
• इस रेल लाइन की लंबाई 116.65 किलोमीटर होगी।

अंबाजी

• माँ अंबाजी मंदिर गुजरात-राजस्थान सीमा पर अरासुर पर्वत पर स्थित है।

• अम्बाजी मन्दिर हिन्दुओं की 51 शक्ति-पीठों में से एक है।
• अंबाजी का मंदिर इसलिए भी अनोखा माना जाता है, क्योंकि यहां देवी की एक भी मूर्ती नहीं है। मूर्ती के बजाए यहां एक बेहद ही पवित्र श्री यंत्र है, जिसकी मुख्य रूप से पूजा की जाती है। 

माउंट आबू

• माउंट आबू राजस्थान राज्य के सिरोही ज़िले में स्थित एक नगर है।

According to the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Gender Gap Report 2022, India ranks 135th out of 146 countries in the world in achieving gender equality. However, last year it was ranked 140th.

• According to the report, Iceland has retained its position as the most gender-equal country in the world, followed by Finland, Norway, New Zealand and Sweden.
• India's position is much worse among its neighbours. It is currently behind Bangladesh (71), Nepal (96), Sri Lanka (110), Maldives (117) and Bhutan (126).

Key highlights of the report -

• The World Economic Forum has warned that women around the world are most likely to be affected by the crisis of livelihood due to the situation arising out of the corona period.
• After further widening the gender gap in the labour force, it will take another 132 years to narrow it.
• The report further states that COVID-19 has pushed gender equality back a generation. The weak recovery rate is further affecting it globally.

What's in the WEF report on India?

• According to the report, two indicators of gender equality in India - women's economic participation and new opportunities have been encouraged.
• The gender gap score in India has been recorded at the seventh highest level in the last 16 years.
• The share of women MPs/MLAs, senior officials and managers has increased from 14.6 percent to 17.6 percent.
• The share of women as professional and technical workers increased from 29.2 percent to 32.9 percent.
• Gender equality has improved in terms of estimated earned income.
• Apart from this, its value for men and women has also come down.
• India's global gender gap score has hovered between 0.593 and 0.683 since the index was first compiled.

• रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, आइसलैंड दुनिया के सबसे अधिक लिंग-समान देश के रूप में अपना स्थान बरकरार रखा है, इसके बाद फिनलैंड, नॉर्वे, न्यूजीलैंड और स्वीडन का स्थान है।
• भारत की स्थिति अपने पड़ोसियों में भी काफी खराब है। फिलहाल यह बांग्लादेश (71), नेपाल (96), श्रीलंका (110), मालदीव (117) और भूटान (126) से पीछे है।

रिपोर्ट की प्रमुख बातें -

• विश्व आर्थिक मंच ने चेतावनी दी है कि कोरोनाकाल के बाद उपजी स्थिति से जीवनयापन के संकट से पूरी दुनिया में महिलाओं के प्रभावित होने की संभावना सबसे ज्यादा है।
• श्रम बल में आगे लैंगिक अंतर बढ़ने के बाद इसे कम करने में 132 साल और लगेंगे।
• रिपोर्ट में आगे कहा गया है कि कोविड-19 ने लैंगिक समानता को एक पीढ़ी पीछे धकेल दिया है। इससे उबरने की कमजोर दर इसे वैश्विक रूप से और प्रभावित कर रही है।

भारत पर डब्ल्यूईएफ की रिपोर्ट में क्या ?

• रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, भारत में लैंगिक समानता के दो सूचक- महिलाओं की आर्थिक भागीदारी और नए मौकों को बढ़ावा मिला है।
• भारत में लैंगिक अंतर का स्कोर पिछले 16 वर्षों में सातवें सर्वोच्च स्तर पर दर्ज किया गया है।
• महिला सांसदों/विधायकों, वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों और प्रबंधकों की हिस्सेदारी 14.6 प्रतिशत से बढ़ कर 17.6 प्रतिशत हो गई है।
• पेशेवर और तकनीकी श्रमिकों के रूप में महिलाओं की हिस्सेदारी 29.2 प्रतिशत से बढ़ कर 32.9 फीसदी हो गई।
• अनुमानित अर्जित आय के मामले में लैंगिक समानता बेहतर हुई है।
• इसके अलावा पुरूषों और महिलाओं के लिए इसके मूल्य में भी कमी आई है।
• सूचकांक को पहली बार संकलित किए जाने के बाद से भारत का वैश्विक लिंग अंतर स्कोर 0.593 और 0.683 के बीच आ गया है।

The Paper Import Monitoring System (PIMS) is being implemented from October 1 this year.

IMPORTANT FACTS -

• The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT)  introduced the Paper Import Monitoring System (PIMS) by making amendments to the import policy of major paper products.
• The online facility of registration will be available from 15th July 2022.

Process of registration :

• Under PIMS, an importer needs to obtain an automatic registration number by paying a registration fee of Rs 500 through the online system.
• This registration number will be allotted not later than the 75th day preceding the expected date of arrival of the import consignment and not later than the fifth day preceding the expected date of arrival of the consignment.
• This automatic registration number will be valid for a period of 75 days and within the validity period of registration, Bill of Entry (BOE) of miscellaneous consignments will be allowed under the same registration number for the sanctioned quantity.

• The PIMS will apply to imports by a domestic sector unit on a wide range of paper products covering 201 tariff lines, such as newsprint, handmade paper, tissue paper, toilet paper and cartons etc.
• Paper products like currency paper, bank bond and check paper, security printing paper etc. have been kept out of the purview of compulsory registration.

Objectives of Paper Import Monitoring System :

• Ban on dumping of paper products in the domestic market through under-invoicing.
• Prohibition of entry of prohibited goods by false declaration.
• Prohibiting the re-transport of goods through other countries in lieu of trade agreements.

• पंजीकरण की ऑनलाइन सुविधा 15 जुलाई 2022 से उपलब्ध होगी।

पंजीकरण की प्रक्रिया :

• पीआईएमएस के तहत, एक आयातक को ऑनलाइन सिस्टम के माध्यम से 500 रुपये के पंजीकरण शुल्क का भुगतान करके एक स्वचालित पंजीकरण संख्या प्राप्त करने की जरूरत होगी।
• यह पंजीकरण संख्या आयात खेप के आगमन की अपेक्षित तिथि से पूर्व के 75वें दिन से पहले और खेप के आगमन की अपेक्षित तिथि से पूर्व के पांचवें दिन के बाद आवंटित नहीं की जाएगी। 
• यह स्वचालित पंजीकरण संख्या 75 दिनों की अवधि के लिए वैध रहेगी और पंजीकरण की वैधता अवधि के भीतर, उसी पंजीकरण संख्या के तहत, स्वीकृत मात्रा के लिए विविध खेप के बिल ऑफ एंट्री (बीओई) की अनुमति दी जाएगी।

प्रमुख कागज उत्पाद कौन से हैं जिन पर आयात प्रणाली लागू होगी?

• पीआईएमएस एक घरेलू क्षेत्र क्षेत्र इकाई द्वारा 201 टैरिफ लाइनों, जैसे न्यूजप्रिंट, हस्तनिर्मित कागज, टिशू पेपर, टॉयलेट पेपर और कार्टन को कवर करने वाले पेपर उत्पादों आदि की एक विस्तृत श्रृंखला के आयात पर लागू होगा।

• अंडर-इनवॉइसिंग के माध्यम से घरेलू बाजार में कागज के उत्पादों की डंपिंग पर रोक। 
• गलत घोषणा द्वारा निषिद्ध माल के प्रवेश पर रोक। 
• व्यापार समझौतों के बदले अन्य देशों के जरिए माल का फिर से परिवहन कराने पर रोक लगाना I 

According to data released by the National Statistical Office, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) has increased to 19.6 per cent in May this year, from 7.1 per cent in the previous month.

IMPORTANT FACTS -

• The manufacturing sector's output grew by 20.6% in May this year.
• In May 2022, mining output increased by 10.9% and electricity generation increased by 23.5%.
• Industrial production has been affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic since March 2020, when it stood at 18.7%.
• It shrank by 57.3% in April 2020 due to a decline in economic activity in the wake of the lockdown imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19.
• Industrial production had increased by 13% in August 2021.
• Thereafter, IIP growth remained below 4.4% (in September) and touched an all-time low of 1% in November as well as December 2021.

Retail inflation :

• Meanwhile, retail inflation declined marginally to 7.01% in June, mainly due to a marginal moderation in food prices.
• The Consumer Price Index (CPI) based inflation stood at 7.04% in May and 6.26% in June last year.
• According to government data, inflation in the food basket stood at 7.75% in June 2022, up from 7.97% in the previous month.
• The central bank has been asked to ensure that inflation remains at 4% with a margin of 2% on either side.

Index of Industrial Production (IIP) :

• It is an index that shows the growth rate in different industry groups of the economy over a given period.
• The index is calculated and published on a monthly basis by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO).

Industry groups which are classified under IIP :

• Broad sectors - Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity
• Use-based sectors - Basic Goods, Capital Goods and Intermediate Goods

Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI), an investigating agency of India has joined the Interpol’s International Child Sexual Exploitation (ICSE) initiative.

• Now the CBI is allowed to work with investigators in other countries to trace child sexual abuse online and trace abusers from audio-visual clips using specialized software, identify victims and crime scenes.

NASA on July 12 released the deepest and most accurate infrared image of the universe ever taken from NASA's James Webb Space Telescope.

What is the image about?

• Webb's first deep field galaxy cluster is SMAC 0723 which is filled with thousands of galaxies including the weakest objects seen in the infrared.
• The image of Webb is about the size of a grain of sand held on a hand, a tiny piece of the vast universe.
• The collection also includes fresh images of another galaxy cluster known as Stephen's Quintet, first discovered in 1877.

James Webb Space Telescope :

• NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope was launched by rocket on 25 December 2021 from South America’s north-eastern coast.
• It is the most powerful infrared telescope ever launched by NASA.
• It has been built in collaboration with NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency.
